Music Ministry

The 10 am service is enhanced by the New Sound Praise Band with the leadership of Amy Hoffenkamp, the director of contemporary music. Please consider using your musical talents in voice or instrument to serve the Lord through music ministry. New Sound practices weekly and is always open to new members! Please fill out the form below to get more information.

Saturday evening at 5:00 pm is Informal Blended worship, a more casual service of prayer and preaching; a blend of new and old favorite songs and hymns plus a Biblical, life-related teaching. Sunday morning at 8:30 am is classic, traditional Lutheran worship with Lutheran liturgy, hymns, and Biblical, life-related teaching. There are children's activity bags at the back of the sanctuary for your child's use during the services.

Music ministry in Christian churches these days across the country comes with a lot of variety and interpretation as to what makes good music to use in a worship service.  At Good Shepherd we offer Classic-Traditional, Blended-Traditional and Contemporary worship services.  In Classic and Blended we build our services using hymns from Lutheran Service Book, With One Voice and other resources.  Liturgical formats such as Divine Service I, II, III and IV may be used from time to time, but we also draw from Lutheran Service Builder that offers alternate resources for prayers, responses, and other music suggestions. Our Adult Choir, Handbell Choir, Youth Ensemble and Shepherd Singers Youth Choir will participate throughout the choral season. Participating in the church's music program offers the opportunity to members of Good Shepherd to use their vocal and instrumental talents as an expression of their faith and openly witness to the Lord through the gift of music. God loves to be praised and honored for all He does for us, why not respond through music and sing the song of the church.

Come join us!

Our handbell program is under construction and being re-organized. We have a three-octave set of bells. We would love to have a few more ringers. The ability to understand rhythmic notation is a plus. We are searching for a hand bell choir director to lead and direct our program. We hope to be up and running soon. Please contact us if you are so moved to join in the fun and art of handbell ringing.

This is led by Gary Lichthardt, Director of Music for Traditional Worship and Principal Organist.

All children are welcome to come and participate in music ministry opportunities at Good Shepherd. Our Preschool students receive music instruction each week during the school year. These, our youngest artists, are pleased to present anthems during regular Sunday worship services. They also prepare special programs for the Christmas season and in the springtime.

Shepherd Singers is our busiest children’s choir, made up of children whose ages range from preschool through fifth grade. This group presents anthems during worship services twice monthly and at most festival services. Shepherd Singers also play major roles in our annual children’s Christmas and Spring Musicals.

The Youth Ensemble, our newest group is made up of singers in middle school and high school. These young music ministers provide anthems during worship services and play key directing and supporting roles in our Christmas and Spring Musicals

The annual Christmas and Spring Musicals are open to all children in the community, regardless of whether or not they are involved in any other musical group. Children ages three and older are invited to participate in these song, dance and drama productions where as many as possible (if not all) who audition are given parts.

The Director of Children’s Music at Good Shepherd is Mrs. Betty Roberts.
