Are you essential?

COVID-19 has turned the definition of “hero” upside down! Hollywood and professional sports have been shut down! We have all come to realize that real heroes don’t wear capes and appear on the big screen. Real heroes wear medical gowns, sell us groceries and pick up our trash. People that we may have over looked just a few weeks ago (or even looked down on) are now recognized as essential as we “shelter in place.”

The state of Illinois even came out with a list of “essential” workers. Some of us didn’t make the list. Ouch! That’s a humbling thought, that someone else is more important than me...? Frankly, I think that the governor overlooked MANY essential businesses. You don’t believe me? How many of you are missing your barber or hair dresser (or colorist) ….?

The Good News is that even if the governor may view you has non-essential, Jesus never did.  Jesus our Good Shepherd sees you as the MOST IMPORTANT person in the world. Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me—just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.” (John 10:14-15) Isn’t that awesome?  In spite of how the world may view you, Jesus loves you!  In spite of what you have done (or failed to do) in your life, Jesus cares so deeply for you that he laid down His life so that you could live!

Are you essential?  Yes! In Jesus' eyes, you are the MOST IMPORTANT person ever! “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.” (1 Peter 2:24) I pray that you would always know the love that Jesus has for you!

Loved by Jesus,

Pastor Maske
