Armor of God

Armor of God

How is life? Are things going smoothly in your life or do you feel like you are always under attack? If you feel like your life is just one long battle, you may be right! The fact is that we do live in a world filled with violence. But the worst part is that we do not just struggle with worldly violence, we fight against “cosmic powers, against spiritual forces of evil!” (Eph 6:12)

If you feel like you are in a losing battle, you will benefit from reading Ephesians chapter six. Paul writes this letter to encourage you even as he faces the end of his earthly life in prison. The letter of Ephesians is a message of God’s grace.

It is true, the devil is on the attack!  On our own, we will only lose! What can we do? We can turn to God’s word and rely on the power of the one who has given us victory over sin, death and the devil! We turn to our victor, Jesus Christ!

In this battle that we are in we need a lot of help or we would lose big time! Paul reminds us of the armor that God has provided each one of us to stand against the schemes of the devil. We have the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness and the shoes of readiness given by the gospel of peace.  We also have the shield of faith and the helmet of salvation, to protect us from all the flaming darts of the evil one.

In all of this armor, Jesus only provides us with one offensive weapon, that is the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God! But that one weapon is enough! As we wield the Word of God, the devil and the world cower in defeat! As we rely not on our own wisdom or strength, but rather of the power of God’s word, we are filled with the victorious power of Jesus Christ! Our defeats in life are turned into the victory of forgiveness and life eternal!

Are you facing a battle in your life? Then “take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm!”

Standing by Jesus!
