Joining Jesus on His Mission!

Joining Jesus on His Mission!

We’ve spent the last few weeks talking about the Mission of Good Shepherd. We have said that our Mission is “Loving people to Jesus!”  We’ve spent some time talking about what it means to be active in the ministry of Good Shepherd. How we are called to be active in regular worship and to be in daily prayer. We’re also called to grow in our faith through the regular reading of God’s Word. We also know that God has called us to love people and to “Go and make disciples!”

This weekend, Good Shepherd welcomes Pastor Greg and Susan Finke as they share their teaching from their book, "Joining Jesus on His Mission!"
Jesus has actually been on His mission since He was born in a manger 2000 years ago! Ever since Jesus broke out of the tomb on Easter Sunday morning, he’s been on the loose, pursuing his Father’s redemptive mission; preparing people to be reunited with the Father he loves. In fact, that’s what Jesus is up to right now in every one of our neighborhoods. And… he invites us to join him.

It’s a LOT EASIER THAN YOU MAY THINK!  The hardest part may be in just changing the way that we currently think about sharing our faith with other people! We don’t go and work for Jesus. We go with Jesus. He is already at work in the lives of everyone in every “neighborhood” in our lives (work, home, play). Our part is to recognize and respond to what Jesus is already up to in people’s lives.

Let Jesus do the things that only Jesus can do (living a perfect life, dying for our sins, raising from the tomb) and we can do the things that He has called us to do. What have you and I been called to do?  Simple, love your neighbor.  Our secret weapon for joining Jesus on his mission is being with and enjoying people.  When the time is “ripe”, Jesus will send His Holy Spirit to pick the fruit of faith.

We are moving into a new season of ministry at Good Shepherd. May the Holy Spirit guide you as we look for Jesus working in our lives and in the lives of the people that God has sent into our lives!

Together in Christ,
Pastor Steve Maske
