You’ve seen it before. You walk into a restaurant and you see a family sitting down for a nice meal (or even McDonald’s) and mom, dad and the kids are ALL on their cell phones! What could be a great opportunity for a family to come together has become a modern form of isolation….But it’s not just those “other” people! We’re ALL on our phones too much! The average teenager spends nine hours a day on their screens. Adults aren’t much better averaging almost seven hours a day on screens! The bulk of this screen time is on social media, as we check to see how many “likes” that our most recent picture of dinner has received.I can do better! How about you? Have you ever left home and had to turn around… because you left your phone at home!!! When did our phones start controlling us? How did our smart phone become such an important part of our lives?Wouldn’t it be great if we just let God be in charge of our lives instead of letting our smart phone control us? Don’t you think that your life would be more filled with purpose and peace if you just put your phone down and picked up God’s word?Psalm 119:105 teaches us that God’s Word “is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path!” What if we began to treat our Bibles the way that we treat our “smart” phones? What if our Bibles were such an integrated part of our life, that if we ever left home without it, we would turn back to get it! What if we carried it everywhere we went and if we ever needed direction in our life we would turn to God’s Word for guidance? What if the Bible were so important to us that we would check for “messages” from God throughout the day? What if we were involved in an emergency, God’s Word would be the first thing that we looked for….What would happen if you made reading the Bible a PRIORITY in your life over your cell phone? Would your life be more peaceful? Would you be more focused on the things that really mattered? What if you began to cut back on your social media posting and began looking at what God has already “posted” in His Word of Love for you in Jesus? Would you become less anxious when you realized how much God loves you? As you turn to God’s Word as your source of truth, YOU WILL BE BLESSED!“You’re blessed when you stay on course, walking steadily on the road revealed by God. You’re blessed when you follow his directions, doing your best to find him.” Psalm 119:1-2 (MSG)Blessed by Jesus,Pastor Maske
