We preach Christ crucified and Risen from the dead. Jesus is our true Lord and Savior!
Lent is a 40-day season of preparation for Easter. Ash Wednesday begins our season of penitence and reflection. The word Lent comes from a middle English word “lente” meaning “spring.” For Christians, Lent is a time of “spring cleaning,” of facing up to our sinful selves and repenting before God’s wonderful throne of grace. It is also a time for the discipline of learning and growing in the faith. For many Christians this is a time marked by prayer, fasting and almsgiving. These acts of self-denial help to focus on Christ’s sacrifice as we ask God to “create a right spirit within us.” However, Sundays are not considered part of the season of Lent. We still joyfully celebrate the resurrection of Jesus every Sunday as we enjoy Jesus’ victory over sin and death.
Thursday, April 1st at 7:00 pm
Pastor Steven Maske's Message, "Return to the Table" - Mark 14:12-26
Maundy Thursday is the day set aside during Holy Week when we recall the story of Jesus and his disciples in the "upper room". This is where Jesus shared bread and wine with them. Jesus also washed the feet of his disciples in a symbolic sign of love toward them. It would be the last time they would be together before Jesus would be crucified. The Sacrament of the Altar will be celebrated and the service will end in silence with the stripping of the altar and the reflective reading of select Psalms.
Six Hearts -Twelve Hands bell choir will be ringing arrangements of "Jesus Paid It All" and "There Is a Fountain Filled With Blood". The Praise will present "How Deep the Father's Love."
Friday, April 2nd at 7:00 pm
Pastor Steven Maske's Message “Return to the Truth" - John 19:1-16
The day Jesus Christ was crucified, God proved his love for his people by letting Jesus, his Son be crucified by the sins and wrongdoings of mankind. The darkest day of the church year is Good Friday. Good Shepherd will recognize and mourn the murder of Jesus with a special Tenebrae worship service. Special scripture readings, music and hymns will be the elements of this service of darkness. The Good Friday service engages all who come to worship and honor our Lord for what He has done.
Shepherd's Voice will be singing at this service. Anthems include "Go to Dark Gethsemane" by Lloyd Larson, the powerful Gilbert Martin arrangement of "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross", and the opening hymn for choir and congregation, "What Wondrous Love Is This" arranged by John Leavitt. Jennifer Silk will join us again this year to provide special music as she plays on both violin and viola. Jennifer and Gary will perform "Adagio" by Samuel Barber, a work which has become a Good Friday tradition. "Were You There" will be led by Todd Morley to close the service.
